Photography, video and web design for research and industry.

A studio in Farmington, Connecticut, working with laboratories, manufacturers and institutions.

Camarda Visual Studio – Visual Communication for professionals

Photography

Portraits of researchers, laboratory and production environments, equipment, and the work as it happens. I shoot on site, around people who have limited time and processes that cannot stop.

Web Design

Custom WordPress sites, built and hosted. Publication databases, filtering systems, image galleries. I write the code, produce the photographs, and handle the content, so the site holds together from the first line to the last image.

Video

Short films and motion sequences for research groups, manufacturers and cultural projects. Filming, editing, sound and titling. Often shot alongside a photography session, which keeps a single visual language across both.

How the work happens

I run a one-person studio in Farmington, and most of the work happens somewhere else. Laboratories, production floors, historic building sites. I go there, because what I photograph cannot be carried into a studio and lit at leisure.

That means working around people who have twenty minutes between experiments, and around machines that will not stop for a photograph. It also means arriving with a plan, and leaving with what was agreed.

Web design follows a different logic. A site is built and maintained from here, so those clients are spread wider. I worked in France, moved to Long Island in 2008, and brought the studio to Connecticut in 2016.

One studio for the whole chain

A photographer subcontracts the website. A web agency subcontracts the shoot. In both cases you brief twice, arbitrate between two suppliers, and end up with images that were never made for the page they sit on.

Here the photographs are taken for the site they will live in. I know the crop before the shutter, the file weight before the upload, the print bleed before the layout. When a leaflet, a report and a homepage come out of the same session, they hold together, because nobody had to make them match afterwards.

Seven years with L’Atelier Gris Mousse show what that looks like: photography, video, printed material and creative direction from one place.

Selected work

The Jackson Laboratory

Portraits, laboratory environments and annual report photography for a genomics research institute.

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory

Panoramic view of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in fall, used as the featured image for the portrait series of its leading scientists.

Portrait sessions with researchers, including several Nobel laureates.

Rock of Science

Spherical Chinese chalcopyrite on black reflective surface – mineral photography with metallic iridescence

A gallery of photographs that became a searchable database, as the collection grew from a hundred specimens toward four hundred.

L’Atelier Gris Mousse

Patinated turquoise desk with decorative lamp and shutters – Atelier Gris Mousse studio scene

Seven years of visual identity for an interior design studio: a dining room staged on a beach, a living room set up in a working stable.

Gros Frère et Sœur

I asked to photograph the vineyards for myself. The estate looked at my work and commissioned the job instead, then asked me back for the harvest.

Dance photography for a company and its performances.
