Photography, video and web design for research and industry.

I run a one-person studio in Farmington, and most of the work happens somewhere else. Laboratories, production floors, historic building sites. I go there, because what I photograph cannot be carried into a studio and lit at leisure.
That means working around people who have twenty minutes between experiments, and around machines that will not stop for a photograph. It also means arriving with a plan, and leaving with what was agreed.
Web design follows a different logic. A site is built and maintained from here, so those clients are spread wider. I worked in France, moved to Long Island in 2008, and brought the studio to Connecticut in 2016.
A photographer subcontracts the website. A web agency subcontracts the shoot. In both cases you brief twice, arbitrate between two suppliers, and end up with images that were never made for the page they sit on.
Here the photographs are taken for the site they will live in. I know the crop before the shutter, the file weight before the upload, the print bleed before the layout. When a leaflet, a report and a homepage come out of the same session, they hold together, because nobody had to make them match afterwards.

Portrait sessions with researchers, including several Nobel laureates.
A gallery of photographs that became a searchable database, as the collection grew from a hundred specimens toward four hundred.
Seven years of visual identity for an interior design studio: a dining room staged on a beach, a living room set up in a working stable.
I asked to photograph the vineyards for myself. The estate looked at my work and commissioned the job instead, then asked me back for the harvest.
